so sweet

i love Ava's parents.  They are SO sweet.  They brought her over tonight, so they could do some Christmas shopping.  and what did they bring with them?  a gift for me.  so sweet.

two $25 gift cards--one for the movie theater, one for Buffalo Wild Wings.  And 2 very pretty ornaments.  Very over the top sweet of them.  One ornament and no gift cards would've been sufficient for a Christmas gift.  And the card was just soooo sweet!  (i know--using those words an awful lot, but it's true!)  They wrote how much they appreciate me, and well, it was just so sweet!  :)

And when they came back when they were done, they had bought a toy gun for each boy!

SO SWEET!

more sleep talking

2 nights ago...
my alarm went off at 5:50 am because I was watching Ava for a couple hours that morning.  It woke Dave up just enough to talk complete nonsense.

Dave: ugh, i feel horrible...
me: why? congested?
D: well, i got all this meat in front of me (gestures in front of him at our meat-free bed).
Me: ummm, you're in bed.
D: well, I couldn't put it in my stomach, so i had to put it other...  places...

I just walked away.  there's nothing to even say about that.

Last night....

Dave:  What's that sound?!
Me:  What sound?
D:  um, the non-crickets!!  (the boys sleep with a sound machine playing cricket noises, and we hear it over the monitor)
me:  the crickets are on
D:  No!  it's just static!
me: no, it's not.  it's fine.
D:  Fine.  Whatever.

gifts

Apparently I wasted a lot of time, money, and gas yesterday.

A few days ago I remembered that Dave had seen this double action ratchet on a commercial about a month ago.  He had remarked how cool it was.  I figured that it would make a good stocking stuffer.  Went to home depot on Saturday, they did not carry it.  Went to Lowes and found out that they are the only store that carries it, but that particular location was all out; should be getting a shipment on Monday.  Call on Monday, the truck was delayed due to weather.  Try back tuesday.  I call Tuesday morning (yesterday) and am informed that the order was cancelled by the manufacturer, and they would not be receiving ANY more.  At all.

Light bulb.  Maybe a different location still has some.  There is a location in Flint and one in Rochester.  I was already taking the kids to the mall to see Santa in Auburn Hills, so I decided to call the Rochester location.  They had the elusive tool, and yes, they would hold it for me.  So after a somewhat trying morning taking the kids to see santa and wandering around Bass Pro for a bit, we stopped to get gas ($30), and headed out to Rochester.  We purchased the tool ($21).  Yay!!  He'll be so excited!

By this time it is around 1pm.  The boys obviously needed lunch, so we stopped at Wendy's ($12).  THEN I receive a phone call while we're eating:  "try not to spend much from here on out."  Awesome.  I just spent $63.

When Dave got home, he started bugging me for his gift.  He had already given me most of mine at that point. I finally agreed and told him where it was.  He got it out (I was in another room), and I didn't hear any acclimation of joy.  I walked in, he was smiling, but not to a sufficient degree.
"Do you know what it is?" I asked.
"Yeah, I know exactly what it is."
"Do you like it?"
hesitaion...  "I'll never use it."
"What?! Why?!  You said that thing was awesome!"
"I said it was something I would get for my dad or your dad, but i would never use it because I always use power tools."
"return it."  Walked away.

I was sooo upset.  I went through all of that trying to get him something that i thought he would really like, and I was wrong.  AAAGGGHHH!   a little later, he made a joking comment about the gifts he had gotten me and the one I had gotten him, and i just lost it.  Bawling my eyes out.

After I had calmed down, and my eyes had dried out a bit, I got to experience the joy of returning my brilliant gift.

Good night.  good night.....
